Wells Fargo & Company Strong Box Lock Padlock

STRONG BOX PADLOCK, a thick solid brass replica lock with W. F. & Co. on the keyhole cover and 2 keys! The lock measures 2 1/4 inches wide and 3 inches tall. It is also 3/4 of an inch thick! The W. F. is for Wells Fargo and Company. The Wells Fargo Company strong boxes were made of pine wood with oak rims and reinforced with steel straps and that seems to be the preferred material for the many different kinds of company boxes. The oak and straps were used to prolong the life of the box, to protect the box from wear and tear, and to deter robbery and pilferage. However, any wooden box could be opened easily with a good axe, or a blast from a shot gun. All of the company treasure boxes were made to strict specifications.
