Western Pony Express Messenger Eagle Badge

BADGE, a solid copper double die struck with silver-plated antique finish Pony Express Messenger. It is a shield with an eagle crest and a raised horse and rider in the center. The badge measures 2 inches wide and has the clasp on the back to pin to a shirt. The Pony Express was a brief 18 months of history, but a very eventful and interesting history it is. A 1600 mile journey from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California in only 10 days by horseback through treacherous terrain. Remarkably only one man was killed during this 18 month time, prior to the telegraph.
