Small Glass Advertising Counter Jar Little African
COUNTER JAR, that is a replica of a Black Americana advertising piece. The jar is a small heavy clear glass counter jar with glass lid & plastic seal. The front has "Little African" with a black boy and an alligator along with "Licorice Bites" and "A Dainty Morsel". The counter jar measures 6 inches tall and 4 1/4 inches wide. It was the English who introduced the herb licorice to the American Indians, which is strange because it was usually the other way around. John Josselyn of Boston in the 16th century lists licorice as one of the "precious herbs" he brought over from England. He would brew a beer for the Indians when they had a bad cold.
