Pair Cast Iron Cowboy Western Spurs

PAIR OF SPURS, a cast iron pair of replica Mexican style spurs. There is decorative etching on one side of each spur and the rowel is large, blunt and eight-pointed. They measure 7 1/4 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide. The rowel is 3 1/2 inches. The Romans developed spurs in order to have a way to steer their horses with their legs, while leaving their hands free to fight. There have been varying styles of Spurs throughout the ages and the Western Spur has evolved into a stylized and decorative form of the original 11th century design which was just a crude, straight spike known as a Prick.
