Original Yankee Girl Tobacco Pouch Sack

PAPER SACK, an original old stock Yankee Girl Chewing Tobacco paper bag or sack. It has "Scotten, Dillon Company Yankee Girl Chewing Tobacco" and "Union Made" on a red and white check background with a shield and a girl waving a flag. The bag is for large size and the net wt. is 3 oz and are heavy double wall packets or pouches. The sack measures 4 3/4 inches across and 7 inches tall. Scotten started in the tobacco business in 1852 as a 33-year-old apprentice to Detroit tobacconist Isaac Miller. Sleeping at the shop and saving his money, Scotten eventually was able to finance his own enterprise which he opened to his eventual good fortune just before the Civil War.
