Deadwood South Dakota Marshal Badge
MARSHAL DEADWOOD, the badge is a circle with a cut out star in the center and a decorative detail. It is made of solid copper and double die struck with a silverplated antique finish. It measures 1 3/4 inches across and has a pin for attaching to a shirt. A badge such as this is a known example of the badge for the "Marshal of Deadwood". It refers to the boom camp of Deadwood, South Dakota, a town with a colorful past and interesting characters. We understand that a city lawman arrested Jack McCall for the murder of Wild Bill Hickok on Aug. 2, 1876. McCall had shot Hickok in the back in Mann's Saloon the Aces and Eights he held in his poker hand have become known as the "dead man's hand".
