Cast Iron Please Check Your Guns At The Door Sign
SIGN, a cast iron sign with a rusty antique finish and white painted letters that read "Please Check Your Guns At The Door". The sign is 7 1/2 inches long and is 3 1/4 inches wide. One of the most famous incidents of being asked to "Check Your Guns" occured in 1876 between Texas gunslinger Clay Allison and Charles Faber, a deputy sheriff and local constable. Faber had asked Allison to check his guns and he refused. Faber went for help, but when he returned mistook Clay's brother John for Clay and shot the wrong man. Clay then shot Faber in retaliation.
