Brass Checks & Red Lights Cat House Brothel History Booklet
BOOKLET, a reprint of the original written in 1966 by Fred and Jo Mazzulla. "Brass Checks and Red Lights Being a Pictorial Pot Pourri of Historical Prostitutes, Parlor Houses, Professors, Procuresses and Pimps." An interesting bit of history and a great companion for the cat house tokens. Here is over 50 pages of pictures and information on the old west brothels and madames and much more. Madams provided for the women who worked for them, a number of services, primarily protection, often employing "bouncers" who would rid the house of any "rif-raf." Sometimes, room and board was also provided, though at others, the "soiled doves" aid rent. The madam would then take a split of the money earned by the "girls," an amount that varied from house to house, and the "services" provided by the madam.
