The Face Of The Old West Is Tombstone Arizona
The Face Of The Old West Is Tombstone Arizona
No other western town reminds us of the old west more than the old west town of Tombstone Arizona. There are many old western towns still thriving today; like Dodge City Kansas, Deadwood South Dakota and Virginia City Nevada just to name a few but the grand daddy of all old west towns is Tombstone.
The town of Tombstone was made famous by Wyatt Earp and his brothers with the Gunfight at the OK Corral in 1881, but this town had lots of history before Wyatt and Doc Holliday ever set foot in the town.
Silver prospectors flocked to the area in 1877 when a prospector by the name of Ed Schieffelin found silver when he was told all he would find out in the desert was his tombstone. He named his first silver mine Tombstone. The town that was then formed by the rush of prospectors was also named Tombstone after his first mine claim. One of the best web sites for all things Tombstone is www.tombstoneweb.com, which also has some great links to history pages on Doc Holliday who was Wyatt Earp's best friend. There are also Doc Holliday stores with some great merchandise and links such as, www.dochollidaytrading.com. You can also find some great information and web sites for Virgil Earp, Johnny Ringo, and the Clanton gang.
The interest in old west collectibles has always been in high demand, but after the movie Tombstone came out in 1993, starring Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp and Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday, the interest in old west collectibles exploded. Interest in all things old west, such as the badge Wyatt wore when he was a US Marshal in Dodge City Kansas or jailer lock and keys and shackles became popular decorative items and conversation pieces even more so after the popular movie came out.
